What a GREAT day!

You probably don't get too many days in each life that stand out in that JFK way... The days that everyone remembers. I think that this is my third. We've been through 9/11, Obama's election and now the in inauguration. I don't think that I am being simplistic to think that I will always remember these three days. Mind you, the boys will certainly remember Obama's election but I'm not sure that today had the same impact so maybe it will just be some of us that remember today as a pristine, happy, perfect day. It was fabulous! Arethra Franklin sang and I got chills. Obama spoke and I got chills. Obama took his oath of office and I got chills. Joe Biden took his oath and he just looked to giddy and goofy that it broke the intensity for me and made me laugh. What a great day!

Balance-shpalance

We seem to be a little "all or nothing" these days. Just when I thought that balance is the key... we have a day that goes well, where "haphazard" seems to be the best way to describe it. At one point today after NOT having Gus write anything... Gus asked me to LET him write (at a time when I had neither the time nor intention of having him write....) Maybe the hands off approach and zero pressure (as opposed to my recent approach of zero-tolerance) actually might work. Today we were as close to Unschooled as you could be... and it was great AND they each did lots of math... and they both tried to recite a poem I've been reading to them AND they both painted without fighting AND they played together at Gene's game... Why ask why....

AND to top off this extraordinary day it looks like we might be able to hope for a better America... Obama is going to win....
