and then....
After spending the day fussing over my camera (well, maybe "fussing" is too harsh a word) Siri came in (there are always dogs and children coming in and out... we've had two attempts this weekend aLONE of one of the chickens actually gaining access to the back door and inner hallway - Chicken Run style). Kids ran in after Siri, complicated versions of the incident were yelled by mulitple children at the same time. As best as I can surmise : Siri had been out running with Drake when she side swiped a big sharp piece of tractor equipment (which was not being used at the time, but apparently is lethel enough even in an inactive state) which tore a huge area of skin off her side (makes me nauseous to even think of it). Poor dog looked like she didn't know what hit her. She is at the vet overnight but should be home tomorrow. On a less important and yet related issue.... can the dogs NEVER do this shit on a weekday when we don't have to pay the EXTRA vet bill for dragging our poor vet to his office on a SUNDAY. This is one reason we will never have a horse. There are many, many, many, many other reasons, but this is ONE.

Tastes like................
Yes... chicken... although Siri didn't get much of a taste... AND the chicken is still alive...
Neil got chickens. Only two... (because we are a little overwhelmed with our to-do list right now). Poor Neil's been waiting to get his chickens since we moved here... so two is better than us totally laming out on the bargain. We've had them since Monday, and the dogs are just going mental with the smell of them and the sound of them and the lack of opportunity to actually get a good sniff of them! Today Neil and I spent about 30 minutes watching Ginny quiver with the nearness of the birds while we sat next to her smacking her HARD on the nose every time she lunged at the cage. Siri sat innocently by... looking like butter (or chicken) wouldn't melt in her mouth. I was feeling good about them both... Ginny was using marginal restraint and Siri seemed to understand that these little fellas were off limits. Then we made the mistake of leaving the cage outside (INSIDE a pen, mind you...) and Siri (in a moment of canine weakness) dove for the cage and got one THROUGH the wire cage. It was bleeding but it must have just been a nick 'cause she's still here and doing all the normal chickeny things she had been doing (mostly pooping). She's under observation and seems to be fine. (Of course she MAY BE FINE as they both look the same so we may be observing the FINE one anyway.... - looks like chicken...)

Sirius
Siri is such a cool dog. I like her more than I like Ginny (and WHAT'S not to like about Ginny?) Bay is always pretending that the dogs are hers. She puts a leash on them and walks them around the house, bossing them the whole time. Gus often sleeps with Siri because Siri thinks that the couch in the living room is HER bed, I had to take this photo last night before shooing her off there.

Class Interrupted
Our history class was interrupted this morning when Bay came running in yelling that "Siwi took my puppy". The boys sprang to action and chased Siri (she had taken the puppy and ran outside...) all over the back field. Siri (obviously) loved all the attention. Bay stayed at the back door yelling encouragement to the boys and shooting guns...

Lost Dog / Found Dog
Siri disappeared yesterday. We searched and searched for her but could not find her. Neil and I were horribly upset about her. (So funny, because she can be such a pain in the ass half the time!!) Gene got a text message from a friend this morning to say that she had heard on local radio that a puppy that might be Siri was picked up in the area and the station had a phone number. She was at a house less than a mile away... We drove by there calling her name last night. She seemed excited to see us, but quite frankly she also seemed a little reluctant to get in the car with us!!
