So, like over THAT

My good attitude is officially on hiatus.  If the main kitchen is not functional as per schedule we will be eating cereal out of paper bowls until it is.  This remodel is so annoying.

Kitchen

We should have a functional kitchen by next Thursday!!  The basement laundry room has been surprisingly workable, but I'm done falling over dogs and shoes and laundry baskets as I try to get dinner on the table.  I did manage to get through the project without the use of any disposable dinnerware!!  (Underachiever??  No... I just figured out how to set a goal you can attain......)  Gene has worked every day of his school vacation so far.  Bill (our contractor and friend) says he's a really hard worker and a quick study.  Bill needs to come by next September and motivate Gene to get his homework done.

Dog Doors

The French Doors have been in our garage all winter.  They might be the most impressive change to date...  they look quite out of place (all finished and clean and intact and all...)  Hopefully one of the dogs won't come barreling through one of them.  Odds are it'll be Drake.

Kitchen

Trent can't stand the main floor any longer.  He's done.  Passed done.  He needs to tear out walls and remove cabinets.  My kitchen is now totally emptied and tomorrow the demo begins.  It is truly the ugliest space we've ever owned.  And not in any kind of cute way.  Just plain old ugly ugly.

Fro Ups

Tomorrow is October first and my committment to this blog has been saaaaaad.  So far, the boys still like school.  Because I have to drive  Gene to school just as their bus arrives they have to be ready earlier than ever and it's turned out to be a good thing.  They are now up, dressed, shoed, fed, brushed, cleaned and toileted 15 minutes before the bus is even due.  Gus has even been compliant.... happy even.  I still baby him the most; help with his clothes, offer him MANY different food choices etc.  But it's working.  AND I'm not yelling!

We contracted the stomach flu AND a nasty cold already.  (We may in fact have been the host family for the cold).  Everyone is struggling with illnesses this year.  I'll be getting my flu shots this year for sure, as will everyone else in the Peppard house.  Bay has only vomited one other time in her life and she was so sad and pathetic.  At one point she could feel that she was going to throw up again and she whimpered "Oh no.  Not again", in the saddest little voice.  Gus never got the flu.  Why ask why when it comes to Gus... viruses are weird like that, but still... we all had it and he lived here with us... and either the virus knows when it's met it's match or he is just too fast to allow a virus lodge itself on him.  It's certainly not due to any kind of personal cleanliness, of THAT I am SURE!

I am tired of the remodel.  I have been pretty good for a year and a half but this month Trent and I both felt jaded by it.  It's all coming together pretty quickly, but the last 6 or 7 things are staggering themselves around contractors schedules and it's enough to drive you crazy.  Trent looks for a tape measure six or eight times a week.  It's become a joke for me... but he really actually does lose them ALL  the TIME.  We now own about five of them but no one knows where any of them are.  Obviously I've made a variety of witty suggestions as to where he can look for one.

The hens have not laid and the rooster is a total wanker.  He struts around (I know.... like a rooster....), pushes the hens around, crows from about 4:30 a.m., monopolizes the food and is generally a pain in the ass.  I don't know why the hens put up with him.

annoying...

The boys are not enjoying our new schedule. The weekends are the problem. Unfortunately, there's no way to sugar coat it for them (and no point in sugar coating it anyway). Now that our house has "sold" (I am still struggling to write that or say it until after the 15th) weekends are going to be work based. The annoying thing for Trent and I is that we are doing the basement first... so THEY get their cool SPACE a year before we get our kitchen... or our floors...!! I actually understand that they are too young to appreciate that... you aren't meant to be appreciative for your living space at that age... not unless you a refugee... our kids are way too spoiled to actually understand that these things are NOT an entitlement, and anyway, in their defense in this country (and most others) they ARE an entitlement. In this country a cell phone is a bloody entitlement! So... the weekends, for the next six months (at least) are going to involve a lot of work.... garbage hauling... furniture moving... sweeping... vacuuming... and general dogsbodying for anyone who is "in charge" of whatever project is being undertook. Yes... it's going to get nasty around here. Nasty and ANNOYING.
